Art Terrosa by Allie Wright
Terrosa: Earthy, terreous, muddy.
The Giving Tree Series, 2021: it all began with a woodpecker.
The series come from one 40 foot Maple that was riddled with woodpecker holes and at risk for falling on power lines. The power company paid for the tree to be taken down in early 2018. Determined to make use of the beautiful wood, I created side tables, stools/ottomans, and used several logs as barriers to build flower gardens. Over time, the bark would peel off the log in a long sheet. When I applied paint to the bark, I loved how the color highlighted the texture, making it nearly unrecognizable. This started my journey in the "Nature Pop Art" space.
Art Terrosa encompasses the one-of-a-kind artwork, and use of bark images onto textile for a unique, 3-dimensional-looking design. The bark designs are earthy (terrosa), edgy, natural, yet urban/street. The Giving Tree Maple provided both the signature OG White Bark and Kasia HOT Pink patterns.
Why are some of the art pieces not shippable?
Like a fresh-baked cookie, these one-of-a-kind bark pieces cannot be moved around much, otherwise you get crumbs. These pieces are stored flat and are not even flipped over during the framing process. This is why some pieces are hand delivered- to keep its integrity until it finds a permanent home on your wall. Since these are organic materials, you can expect for the pieces to break down over time, and a little bit of sediment will accumulate along the mat and frame. This is the beauty of terrosa- the colors and shapes will change over time.
